M12(NGC 6218)
M12은 1764년 메시에가 발견해서 목록에 포함한 구상성단입니다. 메시에가 발견한 5개의 뱀주인자리 구상성단(M9, M10, M12, M14, M19) 중의 하나이며, M10과 쌍둥이처럼 보이는 구상성단입니다. 중심부 쪽으로 갈수록 점차 밝아지는 모습을 보이며, 작은 망원경으로는 주변부 분해는 가능하지만 중심부는 밀집되어 분해하기 어려운 천체입니다. 지름은 약 75광년이며, 16km/s의 속도로 태양을 향해 접근하는 별무리입니다.

Nebula discovered in the Serpent, between the arm and the left side of Ophiuchus: this nebula contains no star, it is round & its light is faint; near this nebula there is a star of 9th magnitude. M.
